Translations

Work in Progress

This documentation is still being expanded and refined. Features, screenshots, and descriptions may change until Talescape's public release. If something is unclear or you need help, please ask on the official Talescape Discord. We're happy to clarify or update pages as needed.

Translations let Dreamers play a story in another language when the Bard has prepared one. A story has a main story language and can also offer one or more translated languages.

If translations are available, Dreamers can choose the language they want to read while playing. This affects the story content, not the general Talescape interface.

1. Story Language and Interface Language

1. Story Language and Interface Language

The story language is separate from the Talescape interface language.

For example, a Dreamer can keep the app menus in English while reading a story in German, French, Spanish or another available language. The interface language controls Talescape menus and general app text. The story language controls the text that belongs to the selected story.

Bards choose the main story language in Story Settings. If the story is translated, they can use Translations to make additional story languages visible to Dreamers.

2. Choosing a Story Language

2. Choosing a Story Language

Dreamers can change the story language from the player settings. The language selector shows the story's main language and any translations that are available for that story.

When a language is selected, Talescape uses translated story text where it exists. This can include dialogue, choices, scene text, story details, characters, items, achievements and Codex Entries.

If a translated line is not available, Talescape may show the story's original text instead. This keeps the story playable while a translation is still being completed.

3. Preparing Translated Content

3. Preparing Translated Content

Bards prepare translated content inside the editor. Each available language should be reviewed in the places where Dreamers will read it, especially dialogue, choices and story details.

The translation view helps Bards compare the original story text with translated text while writing or reviewing a language version. This is useful for keeping names, tone and important choices consistent across languages.

4. Reviewing Translations

4. Reviewing Translations

Before publishing or updating a translated story, review Translations from the player's perspective. Check that the language selector offers the expected languages, that important story text is translated and that any remaining original text is intentional.

Translation checks can help Bards find missing or incomplete translated content before Dreamers encounter it.
