Talescape Originals

Work in Progress

This documentation is still being expanded and refined. Features, screenshots, and descriptions may change until Talescape's public release. If something is unclear or you need help, please ask on the official Talescape Discord. We're happy to clarify or update pages as needed.

Talescape Originals are stories created or commissioned by Talescape. They are the platform's most intentional releases: stories that show what Talescape can become when strong writing, thoughtful design and close collaboration come together.

Some Originals are created directly by Talescape. Others begin as stories from established Bards and are developed with Talescape's support. In those cases, Talescape may fund the work, help shape the production and support the release.

Talescape Originals are selective by design. They are not a general grant program or an open funding pool for any story idea. They are reserved for projects and creators that already show a strong fit with the platform and its community.

What Makes a Story an Original

A Talescape Original is a story that Talescape has chosen to stand behind directly.

That can mean:

  • A story created by Talescape.
  • A story commissioned by Talescape.
  • A story from an established Bard that Talescape funds, develops or publishes with additional support.

The label is not given automatically. A story becomes an Original only when Talescape has reviewed the project, agreed on the collaboration and chosen to publish or support it as part of the official Originals slate.

Originals should feel lasting, carefully made and emotionally clear. They do not need to be large, complex or expensive. They do need to show a high level of craft and a clear reason to exist on Talescape.

Who Can Be Considered

Bard-led Originals are intended for active members of the Talescape community with a proven track record.

To be considered, a Bard should usually have:

  • Published stories on Talescape.
  • A visible history of care, reliability and constructive participation.
  • A clear creative voice.
  • The ability to finish and refine a story through feedback.
  • A project idea that fits Talescape's tone, audience and technical format.

This is a strict gate. Talescape Originals are not meant as a first step for new creators, outside applicants or Bards who have not yet shown what they can build inside the platform.

Exceptional work still matters, but trust matters too. Talescape funds and supports Originals where there is already evidence that the Bard understands the platform and can carry a project to release.

How Selection Works

There is no open application round for Talescape Originals.

Selection usually starts in one of two ways:

  • Talescape invites a Bard to discuss a possible Original.
  • An active Bard expresses interest and shares a focused story idea.

From there, Talescape reviews the creator's published work, community activity, story concept, production scope and fit with the platform. If the project looks promising, both sides discuss what support is realistic and what kind of agreement would be needed.

Expressing interest does not guarantee selection, funding, publication or the Talescape Originals label.

What Talescape May Provide

Support depends on the story, the Bard and the resources available at the time.

For selected Originals, Talescape may provide:

  • Funding for the creation or completion of the story.
  • Editorial feedback on structure, pacing, tone and player experience.
  • Technical guidance for building the story in the Talescape Editor.
  • Help with production planning and release preparation.
  • Additional visibility through official Talescape channels.

The exact support is agreed case by case before production begins. Talescape will not ask a Bard to rely on assumed funding or informal promises.

Publication and Credit

Publication details are agreed individually for each Original.

Before work begins, Talescape and the Bard agree on the project scope, support, responsibilities, credit, publication setup and any rights or distribution terms that apply to that specific story.

The public credit should make the relationship clear. A Bard-led Original should identify the creator and make it visible that the story was selected, supported or commissioned as part of Talescape Originals.

No general ownership, payment, exclusivity or distribution terms are promised by this page. Those details belong in the individual agreement for the project.

How to Express Interest

If you are an active Bard with published Talescape stories and you believe one of your ideas could become a Talescape Original, you may contact Talescape with a concise note.

Please include:

  • A short description of the story.
  • Links to your published Talescape work.
  • Why you think the project fits Talescape Originals.
  • What kind of support you are looking for.

You can send questions or expressions of interest to contact@talescape.com or message Christian (Aureola) directly via Discord.
