System Requirements

Work in Progress

This documentation is still being expanded and refined. Features, screenshots, and descriptions may change until Talescape's public release. If something is unclear or you need help, please ask on the official Talescape Discord. We're happy to clarify or update pages as needed.

Before you start creating your first story, make sure your device meets the recommended requirements and that you can log in using one of the supported providers.

1. System Requirements

Talescape is designed to run on most modern computers. While the editor can work on low-end hardware, a system with the specifications below will ensure smooth performance, especially when working with large projects or media-heavy stories.

Component Recommended
Operating System Windows 10 or newer / macOS 12 or newer / recent Linux distribution
Processor Quad-core CPU (Intel, AMD, or Apple Silicon)
Memory (RAM) 8 GB or more
Graphics GPU with WebGL 2.0 support
Storage SSD with at least 2 GB free space
Display Resolution 1920×1080 or higher
Internet Connection Required for login, publishing, and media sync

If your system meets these specifications, the editor should perform smoothly even with large assets or branching logic.

2. File & Media Limits

To ensure fast loading and consistent performance, Talescape applies a few technical limits.

Type Limit Notes
Total Story Storage 250 MB per story Combined size of all uploaded media
Maximum File Size 16 MB Applies to individual image, audio, or video files
Image Formats PNG, JPG, WebP PNG recommended for portraits and UI elements
Audio Formats MP3, OGG, WAV MP3 preferred for compatibility

3. Login Options

You can log in with one of the supported external providers. No password is required, as Talescape uses secure OAuth authentication.

Supported providers:

  • Discord
  • Google
  • Steam
  • Twitch

Logging in creates your Bard account, which is used for:

  • Saving and syncing your projects
  • Publishing and managing releases
  • Participating in contests and payouts

4. Security Notes

  • Your login credentials are handled entirely by the provider you choose.
  • Talescape only receives your name, avatar, and unique provider ID.
  • All communication between the editor and the Talescape servers is encrypted.
  • OAuth tokens are securely stored and automatically refreshed when needed.
  • You can revoke access at any time from your provider’s account settings.

Once you’ve logged in successfully, you can start by creating your first story from the dashboard.
