Asset Packs
Work in Progress
This documentation is still being expanded and refined. Features, screenshots, and descriptions may change until Talescape's public release. If something is unclear or you need help, please ask on the official Talescape Discord. We're happy to clarify or update pages as needed.
Asset Packs allow you to quickly import collections of pre-made assets into your story. These packs typically contain background images, characters, objects, items, or other visual resources that can be used inside scenes.
Asset Packs help creators build scenes faster by providing ready-to-use media organized around a common style or theme. Once imported, the assets become part of your story’s media library and can be used like any other uploaded file.
1. Browsing Asset Packs
Asset Packs are available through the Asset Packs section of your story workspace.
Here you will see a grid of available packs. Each pack includes:
- Preview image showing some of the included assets
- Title of the pack
- Creator name
- Dream Type tags indicating the style or tone the assets fit best
You can use the search field at the top of the page to quickly find packs by name or theme. Asset Packs are organized to make it easy to discover resources suitable for different types of stories.
2. Viewing Pack Details
- Preview Gallery: Shows example assets from the pack so you can quickly evaluate the visual style.
- Description: A short overview of the pack, including its theme, setting, or artistic style.
- Creator: Displays the creator of the asset pack for attribution and reference.
- Dream Types: Indicates which emotional tones the assets are best suited for.
- Daydream: light or uplifting environments
- Nightmare: dark or unsettling settings
- Vision: abstract or experimental visuals
- Echo: nostalgic or reflective environments
- Tags: Additional keywords describing the content of the pack (for example: dungeon, forest, medieval, gothic, fantasy).
- Pack Contents: Shows how many assets are included and will be imported into the story (for example: 45 scenes).
3. Licensing Information
Some asset packs include licensing restrictions.
A pack may display a message such as:
Usage: Requires external license
This means the assets can only be used commercially if a separate license is obtained directly from the creator. Always review the licensing information before using assets in a commercial story.
Talescape does not automatically grant commercial rights for third-party asset packs unless explicitly stated.
4. Importing an Asset Pack
To add an Asset Pack to your story, click the Import button in the pack details view. You can then select the assets that you want to actually import into your story.
The import process will add the assets to your story’s Media Library. Once imported, all assets behave exactly like media files uploaded manually.
This means they can be used in:
- scene backgrounds
- image elements
- character portraits
- detail scenes
- item visuals
- interface elements
5. Import Process
During the import, a progress window will appear. This window shows the status of the import and allows the process to run in the background. You can safely close the window while the import continues. When the process finishes, you will receive a notification inside the editor.
Import time depends on the size of the asset pack.
6. Using Imported Assets
After import, all files from the pack are available in your Media Library.
You can use them like any other media asset.
Typical uses include:
- Setting scene backgrounds
- Creating environment objects
- Decorating scenes with props
- Representing items in the world
- Adding atmosphere to locations
Because the assets are stored within your story, they remain available even if the original pack is later removed from the marketplace.
7. Managing Asset Packs
Asset Packs are imported per story. This means each story maintains its own media collection. Importing a pack into one story does not automatically add it to other stories.
This approach ensures that:
- stories remain self-contained
- collaboration is easier
- exported stories include all required assets
If the same assets are needed in another story, the pack can simply be imported again.
8. Best Practices
When working with Asset Packs, consider the following guidelines:
- Use consistent art styles. Mixing many different packs may lead to visual inconsistency.
- Review licensing terms before using assets commercially.
- Avoid importing unnecessary packs to keep project size manageable.
Asset Packs are meant to accelerate production while still giving creators full control over how assets are used in their stories.
