Media Library
Work in Progress
This documentation is still being expanded and refined. Features, screenshots, and descriptions may change until Talescape's public release. If something is unclear or you need help, please ask on the official Talescape Discord. We're happy to clarify or update pages as needed.
Each story in Talescape includes its own media library, a centralized place to manage all images, audio, and other assets used throughout your story.
The media library keeps your story assets organized, searchable, and safe to manage. Every file you upload is automatically assigned to the correct folder based on its purpose and can be used anywhere within the same story.
You can:
- Search and filter by name, type, or folder.
- Preview and download your assets.
- Check where each file is used.
- Delete unused media.
Automatic Folder Organization
Talescape sorts all media into predefined collections (folders). These folders help you find assets faster and ensure the editor always knows what each file is for.
| Folder | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Achievements | Icons and artwork for unlockable achievements |
| Ambience | Ambient environmental sounds (wind, rain, background noise) |
| Chapters | Illustrations, banners, or special visuals used per chapter |
| Characters | Character portraits and visual references |
| Elements | Scene element images (e.g. objects, overlays, visual props) |
| Items | Item thumbnails or inventory icons |
| Music | Background music or looping soundtracks |
| Scenes | Scene backgrounds and environment art |
| Screenshots | Promotional or preview screenshots of your story |
| Sound Effects | Short audio cues (clicks, footsteps, doors, etc.) |
| Thumbnails | Main story thumbnail shown on the marketplace and in the editor |
| Voice Overs | Spoken dialogue and voice recordings |
These categories are applied automatically depending on where the file is used, for example, assigning a background to a scene automatically stores it in the Scenes collection.
Searching and Filtering
You can browse large libraries easily using:
- Search by name – type any part of a filename.
- Filter by folder – show only one collection at a time.
- Filter by type – narrow down to images, audio, or video.
Search and filters can be combined for precise results.
Usage Tracking
Each media file displays a usage summary showing where it appears in your story.
For example:
- Backgrounds used by specific scenes.
- Portraits assigned to characters.
- Audio files linked to dialogue lines or timers.
This transparency ensures you always know what depends on a given file before making changes.
Download and Preview
From the media library, you can:
- Preview images directly in a viewer.
- Play audio files (music, ambience, effects, voice overs).
- Download the original file if you want to edit or back it up.
Safe Deletion
To prevent broken links or missing assets:
- You can only delete files that are not in use anywhere in your story.
- When a file is still attached to a scene, dialogue, or other element, deletion is blocked until you remove all references.
This guarantees the integrity of your story’s structure and media links.
Supported File Types
| Category | Supported Formats |
|---|---|
| Images | JPG, PNG, WebP |
| Audio | MP3, OGG, WAV |
Uploads are automatically optimized for performance and storage. Maximum file size depends on your account limits.
Best Practices
- Use descriptive filenames (e.g.,
forest_night.png,door_close.ogg). - Avoid duplicates by reusing existing media whenever possible.
- Keep file sizes low to improve loading times.
- Verify rights and licenses for every file you upload.
- Do not use photographs or realistic faces (see Content Guidelines).
