Talescape Basics
Start here if you are new to Talescape or want to understand how the platform works. These questions explain the basic idea behind the platform, the language we use and the current closed beta status.
- Talescape is a platform for interactive storytelling. Creators can build branching stories with scenes, dialogue, logic, media and publishing tools, while players can explore those stories across supported platforms.
- Talescape is built for creators who want to make interactive stories and for players who enjoy exploring choice-driven worlds. You can use it as a writing tool, a visual story editor, a testing workflow and a marketplace for playable stories.
- Creators are sometimes called Bards inside Talescape. They write, design, test and publish interactive stories. Players are sometimes called Dreamers. They explore those stories, make choices, leave feedback and discover new worlds.
- Not exactly. Talescape is a storytelling engine that can also be used to create visual novels. That distinction matters because Talescape is not limited to one format: you can build visual novel-style scenes, but you can also create interactive fiction, branching adventures, puzzle stories, item-driven experiences, mood-based discovery and other story-first formats that need more than dialogue screens.
- Talescape is currently in closed beta. Early creators and testers can apply for access, try the editor, test the player experience and help shape the platform before wider release.

Playing Stories
This section is for players who want to browse, play, save, purchase or support Talescape stories. It explains what is planned for the player experience and what may still be limited during closed beta.
- Talescape is planned for Steam, iOS and Android. During closed beta, access may be limited while the player, marketplace and publishing workflows are tested.
- Some stories may be free, while others may be paid. Creators decide how their stories are offered and paid stories may include previews or demos where available.
- Talescape is designed around cloud sync so your progress can follow you across supported devices. Save limits and comfort features may depend on account tier once subscriptions are active.
- Subscriptions are planned as optional comfort tiers for players. They may unlock benefits such as more saves, ad-free play or extra ways to support the platform. Exact pricing and tier details are still being shaped during beta.
- Purchases are handled through the platform where the story was bought, such as Steam, Apple or Google. Their refund rules apply. Talescape can help point you toward the right process, but it does not process those store refunds directly.
Creating Stories
This section is for writers, artists, designers and teams who want to build interactive stories with Talescape. It covers the basic creator workflow, from getting access to building scenes, logic and tests.
- Apply for the closed beta, join the community and open the Talescape editor once you have access. From there you can create a story, define its settings, add chapters and scenes and begin building the interactive flow.
- No. Talescape is built around visual tools for scenes, dialogue, actions, conditions, variables, items and testing. You can create logic and branching behavior without writing scripts.
- You can structure chapters and scenes, write dialogue and choices, place visual scene elements, add triggers and conditions, manage media, create items and achievements, preview your story, run checks and prepare releases.
- Yes. Talescape supports asset packs so creators can import reusable licensed backgrounds, objects, items and visual resources directly into a story project. Asset pack licenses and credits must be respected.
- The editor includes story preview, live debugging, variables, inventory inspection and automated validation checks. These tools help you catch missing media, broken links, unreachable paths and logic problems before players see them.
- Join the Talescape Discord and describe what you are trying to build, not just the feature name. Concrete use cases help decide whether something belongs in the editor, can already be solved with existing tools or should become part of the roadmap.
Publishing, Payments & Safety
This section covers selling stories, review steps, content rules and long-term story access. Some payment and publishing details are still being shaped during closed beta, so the answers here use careful current-state wording.
- Publishing and monetization are part of the planned creator workflow. During closed beta, payment-related features may run in sandbox mode or remain limited while releases, review steps, pricing and payouts are tested.
- After taxes and store fees, Talescape currently describes its platform share as capped at up to 15% of net revenue. The remaining net payout goes to the creator. Exact payment flows can depend on stores, taxes and payout providers.
- Stories can go through automated validation and manual review. Checks help detect missing media, broken paths, content issues and structural problems before a release becomes available to players.
- Creators must provide accurate content settings, warnings and age information. Talescape uses these details together with moderation rules so stories can be reviewed, filtered and presented responsibly.
- Talescape documents contingency and preservation plans so published stories can remain accessible where possible, even if a creator leaves or a story is no longer actively maintained. Purchased access is designed to be protected.
- Talescape has Contingency Plans that describe how the platform should protect creator work and player access if the service ever has to change, wind down or transfer responsibility. The goal is to avoid leaving published stories and purchased access without a path forward.
