Vision & Development

The Road Ahead

This roadmap combines confirmed milestones, near-term priorities, and long-term dreams. Dates are goals, not guarantees - everything here may shift as Talescape grows. For confirmed updates and release notes, visit the Journal or join the official Discord.

2026 - Expansion & Foundation

  • Steam & Mobile Release
Talescape arrives on Steam, iOS, and Android - opening the gates to both Dreamers and Bards.
  • Visual Effects
Rain, snow, fog, and other atmospheric effects become part of the scene toolkit - customizable per scene.
  • Multilanguage Support
Stories can be translated into multiple languages. AI-assisted translation tools will help Bards reach new audiences.
  • AI-Assisted Prototyping
Optional AI tools to speed up early creation - concept art, voice overs, and adaptive background music. Designed to enhance, not replace, human creativity.

2027 - Depth & Interaction

  • First Global Contest
The first themed storytelling contest launches, with real prizes and community voting.
  • Utility Items
Items gain functional behavior. Flashlights illuminate dark areas, scanners reveal secrets, and more.
  • Advanced Puzzle Types
New logic systems for creators: memory challenges, image assembly, lockpicking, and other interactive puzzles.
  • Advanced Debugging
Dreamers can send bug reports directly to Bards, optionally including their current game state. Bards can then open the Dreamer's game state and use the Debug Menu to check what's going on under the hood.

2028 - Freedom & Portability

  • Complete Offline Stories
Stories become fully downloadable - playable anywhere, even without a connection. Included with Talescape Premium.
  • Talescape Premium
A unified subscription model - think Spotify for interactive stories. Premium will remain optional for Bards, allowing them to sell stories independently. Revenue sharing will be fair and transparent, with details announced closer to launch.

Vision - Beyond 2028

  • Character Editor
A visual creation suite to design animated characters inside the editor. Upload layered artwork, define expressions, and integrate characters seamlessly into dialogue.
  • Integrated Asset Marketplace
A community hub for Bards to share or sell assets, templates, and tools. Follows the same fair revenue model as story sales.
  • Nintendo Switch (and Beyond)
A dedicated story player for the Nintendo Switch - and possibly other consoles. This will depend on Talescape’s long-term success or a future crowdfunding campaign.

Roadmaps evolve as Talescape grows. Visions represent long-term stretch goals and may not be implemented exactly as described. For official announcements, feature releases, and community votes, check the #announcements channel on the Talescape Discord.

Guiding Principles

Talescape grows by design, not by pressure. Every decision follows a few core ideas that won’t change - no matter how large the world becomes.

Independence
Talescape will remain self-funded, ad-light, and community-driven.
No investors, no manipulation, no data mining.

Fairness
Bards keep the majority of every story’s earnings.
The platform only takes what’s needed to sustain itself.

Transparency
Development is open. Every major step is documented in the Journal.

Longevity
Stories deserve to last. Preservation and archival tools are built into the platform from the start.

Creativity First
AI assists, but never replaces, the human voice.
Talescape exists to amplify imagination, not automate it.
