Multi-Language Stories & introducing the Codex

journal

This release adds two larger story features to Talescape: your stories can now offer translated story languages, and Dreamers can unlock a Codex while playing.

Translations let you prepare your story for more than one language, while Dreamers can choose which available story language they want to read. The Codex works like a growing lore book, glossary, journal or clue collection that expands as players discover more of your world.

Story Translations

Story Translations

Your story can now have a main story language and additional translated languages. This is separate from the general Talescape interface language, so Dreamers can keep the app menus in one language while reading your story in another available language.

When translations are available, Dreamers can choose the story language from the player settings. Talescape then uses translated story text where it exists, including dialogue, choices, scene text, story details, characters, items, achievements and Codex Entries.

If a translated line is not available yet, Talescape may show your original text instead. This keeps your translated story playable while a language version is still being completed or reviewed.

You can prepare translated content directly inside the editor. The translation view helps compare your original story text with translated text, which is useful for checking names, tone, choices and important story details across languages.

Translation checks were also added to help find missing or incomplete translated content before Dreamers encounter it. This is especially important for dialogue-heavy stories, because small wording differences can change the mood of a scene or the meaning of a choice.

Review your translations from the player's perspective before release, just like other story content.

Codex: Unlockable Lore for Players

Codex: Unlockable Lore for Players

The Codex is a lore book for your story that grows while a Dreamer plays. It can collect information about people, places, objects, factions, events, concepts, mysteries or clues.

Unlike a normal glossary that is fully visible from the start, the Talescape Codex is tied to progress. Entries can be unlocked when the player discovers something, inspects an important object, meets a character or reaches a meaningful story moment.

For players, this gives your longer stories a place for optional context and memory. Dreamers can return to unlocked entries later to review names, clues, world details or discoveries without replaying a scene.

Using Codex Entries in Stories

Using Codex Entries in Stories

You can create Codex Entries in the editor and organize them with simple categories such as People, Places, Objects, Factions, History or Clues. Entries can include a title, teaser, image and description.

Codex Entries are unlocked through story actions. This means you can connect them to events, choices, scene starts, investigations, item interactions or any other moment where your story reveals new information.

Conditions can also check whether an entry has already been unlocked. This lets your story react to what the Dreamer has learned, for example by showing a shorter explanation, offering a special dialogue option or avoiding the same lore beat twice.

Other Changes

Story Settings now include your story's main language and available translations in the General section. This makes language setup part of the same place where you already define the story title, Dream Type and other core identity details.

Only add translated languages that have been prepared and reviewed for your story. The language list is what Dreamers use when choosing how they want to read your work.

This release also includes several bugfixes, general reliability work and smaller improvements across user-facing parts of the app.
