Linux + SteamOS Support & introducing Florins

journal

This release adds Linux support for Talescape. The app is now available on macOS, Windows, Linux, and SteamOS, so the same account and story data can be used across the main desktop platforms. The release also adds the first versions of subscriptions and author payout requests, introduces Florins as a way to say thank you to your favorite Bard, and updates savegames for regular story play.

Florins work like tips, and Talescape does not take a share from Florins given to Bards. Most payment-related features in this release are still in test mode while the workflows are being checked before wider use.

Version: App: v0.18.1 - API: v0.20.3

Now Available on Linux & SteamOS

Talescape can now be used on Linux systems and SteamOS, alongside the existing macOS and Windows builds. This makes the app available on the main desktop platforms and allows players and authors to use the same account and story data across supported systems.

Linux support is new in this release. Steam Deck support has not been thoroughly tested yet, so platform-specific issues may still appear during the first round of wider testing. If you run into issues, please reach out via Discord.

Florins for your favorite Bards

Florins for your favorite Bards

Florins have been added as a way to say thank you to your favorite Bard. They work like tips: you choose the Bard you want to support, and Talescape does not take a share from Florins given to Bards.

Florins can be bought directly or included as part of a subscription. They are meant to give Bards a way to benefit from Talescape subscriptions too, because subscribers can pass their Florins on to the authors they want to support. Florins expire after one month; if they are not given to a specific Bard before they expire, they are automatically used to support Talescape instead.

Subscriptions in Test Mode

Subscriptions in Test Mode

Subscriptions are now available in test mode. The release adds subscription tiers for players and authors, including tier descriptions, recommended products, limits and entitlement data. Prices are not final yet, and the subscription setup may still change while this part of Talescape is being tested.

The subscription flow now covers checkout and status handling, plus cancel, resume, refresh, finish and upgrade actions. Steam, Stripe and local test flows are supported during this phase. Subscriptions can also support story promotion and visibility rounds, so subscribed accounts can receive related story discovery benefits.

Author Payout Requests

Author Payout Requests

Author payout requests are now available in test mode. Authors can request a payout, review the payout amount, see the fee and net amount, and confirm the request before it is submitted. The request keeps a visible status, so authors can follow where it currently stands.

Notifications were also added for payout-related updates. This flow is still being tested before real payout processing is enabled.

Savegames

Savegames

Savegames have been updated for regular story play. Talescape now stores automated saves at the beginning of each scene, so you can return to recent points in a story without having to save manually every time.

Manual saves are also available whenever you want to keep a specific moment. The number of saves you can keep per story depends on your subscription.

Other Changes

This release also includes several bugfixes, general reliability work, and updated translations across user-facing parts of the app.
